February 16, 2001
PCTEL to Showcase SolsisTM Embedded Modem at the Internet Appliance Workshop Milpitas, CA – February 16, 2001 – PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCTI), the leading provider of cost-effective software-based connectivity for millions of Internet users, today announced it will showcase its SolsisTM embedded soft modem solution at the Internet Appliance Workshop in San Jose, California February 20-21 (Booth #32). PCTEL is a luncheon sponsor of this year’s event, aimed at reaching hardware and software developers, systems integrators, OEMs and others concerned with designing new Internet appliances.

"Our participation in the Internet Appliance Workshop is another indication of PCTEL’s aggressive pursuit of non-PC applications for its embedded modem," noted Mark Wilson, PCTEL’s vice president of marketing. "This workshop gives us an opportunity to show consumer device manufacturers how the Solsis modem can be added to small, compact consumer electronics such as set-top boxes, gaming consoles and residential gateways– providing them with a cost-effective, energy efficient Internet connectivity solution."

Measuring less than five square inches and needing less than 300 milliwatts of power, the Solsis modem utilizes Texas Instruments’ C5000 DSP platform and is capable of operating at digital speeds of up to 230 Kbps, and analog speeds ranging from 300bps to 56Kbps. It is ideal for any device requiring transparent Internet/Web connectivity, from game consoles, web phones and consumer electronics to thin clients and handheld computers. Its internationally compliant phone line interface is applicable for international travel devices.

The Internet Appliance Workshop will be held at the Wyndham Hotel San Jose. PCTEL will be sponsoring the conference luncheon on February 20 and will be exhibiting in Booth #32 on February 21 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. For more information, visit the conference web site at www.netapplianceconf.com.
