PCTEL to Demonstrate Industry’s First Combo ADSL/V.90 Soft Modem at Consumer Electronic Show DSL Forum Milpitas, CA – January 8, 2001 – PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCTI), the leading provider of cost-effective software-based connectivity for millions of Internet users, today announced its participation in the DSL Forum’s interoperability event at the annual Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nev. January 6-9, 2001. To be included in the DSL Forum interoperability showcase, PCTEL (CES booth #4459) has had to successfully demonstrate interoperability with central office equipment from leading DSLAM vendors.

The DSL Forum will be showcasing applications for DSL technology in homes and businesses as well as highlighting technological advancements regarding acceleration of DSL interoperability.

“Our participation in the DSL Forum is another indication of PCTEL’s continued commitment to helping the industry increase awareness and deployment of DSL in the mass marketplace,” noted Mark Wilson, PCTEL’s vice president of marketing. “The DSL Forum provides another venue for us to demonstrate how software-based modem technology can help manufacturers and service providers lower costs and simplify the delivery of DSL to home PC users.”

PCTEL’s LiteSpeed supports V.90 56kbps analog connectivity as well as the universal Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) standard for connectivity supporting rates up to 1.5 megabits per second (Mbps) – more than 25 times faster than today’s analog modems. This provides PC OEMs with a cost-effective modem solution for Internet-ready hardware products that will always be able to connect at 56K. Once DSL service is available to a PC user, it is a simple matter of purchasing a DSL account on-line and having the selected provider activate the account. This solution is flexible, cost effective and available today to OEMs.
