PCTEL Wins Motion to Transfer Patent Infringement Suit to California Federal Court
CHICAGO, May 19, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
PCTEL, Inc. (Nasdaq:PCTI), a leading provider of Internet access technology, 802.11 mobility software, and software-defined radio products, announced today that federal judge James F. Holderman granted its motion to transfer 3COM's patent infringement suit to California's Northern District and consolidate it with PCTEL's patent infringement suit against 3COM Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) which was filed in the Northern District of California on March 5, 2003.

PCTEL owns a commanding patent portfolio in modem technology. In addition to their own inventions that enabled the development of "soft" or Host Signal Processing (HSP) modems, the company acquired a patent portfolio from GDC in 1999. More recently, PCTEL sold its HSP modem product line to Conexant and received, in addition to cash consideration, several families of modem patents. Conexant also transferred ownership of two non-modem patents as part of the transaction.
